The Pulses: a SATYA practice

Life pulses.

Sometimes in big ways. Other times in small ways.

It makes me think of a quote from “The Parable of the Sower” by Octavia Butler:

All that you touch, you change. All that you change, changes you.

Each pulse of your breath changes because of the way you move. It might cause your heart to beat slower or faster. The pulses through your nervous system activate muscles, which carry bones and move joints in waves and spirals.

In this month’s SATYA practice you will have an opportunity to tune into the pulses of your body and your breath. These movements are done lying on the ground so that you can reduce a tendency toward over-effort and invite softness and ease.

Honor the unique pulse of late summer by slowing down.

A special pop-up class to honor the summer sun with a slow, supported practice of sliding and gliding.

SATYA movements are slow, soft, and small.

By allowing your body to soak and settle out of gravity, you have the opportunity to try new ways of moving with minimal risk. The earth offers both support and feedback. By noticing how your tissues change in their relationship with the floor throughout the sequence, you get to see how these slow, soft, subtle movements are making a big impact with little effort.

Accept Support & Feedback

SATYA movements are often done with support, usually while lying on a blanket covering your sticky mat. Practicing on a surface that allows you to slide and glide will help reveal the sticky or stuck parts of your tissues and joints.
